August falls in Curaçao's dry season, which runs from February through September. Average daytime temperatures sit between 29 and 32 °C, with pleasant cooling in the evenings thanks to the constant north-easterly trade winds. The sun shines an average of 8 to 9 hours a day, and rainfall is low, expect at most a brief tropical shower of 15 minutes in the afternoon, after which the sky clears quickly.

Sea temperature hovers around 28 °C, perfect for snorkelling, diving or simply floating. UV levels are high, so SPF 30–50 sunscreen is essential. The trade winds make the heat feel more comfortable than in Mediterranean beach destinations, but seeking shade between 11 am and 2 pm is still wise.

Hurricane season? Technically, August falls within the Atlantic hurricane season (June–November), but Curaçao sits far outside the typical hurricane belt. The last direct hurricane to hit was Hazel in 1954. In practice, visitors rarely notice anything from storms elsewhere in the Caribbean.

To be honest: August is one of the busiest months of the year in Curaçao. The airport, popular beaches, restaurants and tourist activities all feel the surge. At Jan Thiel Beach, the best spots are still easy to find early in the morning, but after 11 am the beach comes alive. That is also part of the charm, beach bars buzz at full capacity, there is music, and the atmosphere is festive.

Want to avoid the crowds? Get up early. Snorkelling spots like Directors Bay, just a short walk from our villa, are practically deserted at 8 am. Book restaurants at least one day ahead, Zanzibar Beach Club and Fort Nassau fill up fast in August.

Snorkelling at Directors Bay. Less than a ten-minute walk from our villa, you'll find one of the quietest and most beautiful snorkelling spots near Jan Thiel. Exploring Willemstad. The colourful UNESCO World Heritage city is always worth a visit, but especially lively in August. Stroll across the Queen Emma Bridge, visit Mikvé Israël-Emanuel and finish with a cold Amstel at Gouverneur de Rouville. Leave Jan Thiel early to avoid parking headaches.

Catamaran tour. Several operators offer daily and half-day catamaran tours, including snorkelling, food and drinks. A highlight for families and groups. Book at least two days ahead in August.

August is the quintessential family holiday month in Curaçao. The warm, shallow water at Jan Thiel Beach is ideal for young children. What does Curaçao cost in August?

August is high season, and prices reflect that. Flights from Amsterdam (KLM/TUI) are noticeably more expensive than in September or May. Practical tips for August

Book a rental car early. Affordable hire cars go fast in August. Book at the same time as your flights. Without a car you'll struggle to reach the west coast beaches and out-of-town spots.

Reserve restaurants in advance. Zanzibar Beach Club, Scampi's, Fort Nassau and Gouverneur de Rouville fill up quickly. Calling or booking online a day ahead is usually enough, but don't leave it too late.

Hit the beach early. Jan Thiel Beach is wonderfully peaceful at 8 am. Bring or hire sun loungers and claim a good spot before the crowds arrive.

Pack plenty of sunscreen. The UV index in Curaçao is consistently high, in August it can reach 11 or 12 in the middle of the day. Protect children well and reapply regularly, even in the pool.

Take out travel insurance. While the hurricane risk in Curaçao is minimal, a solid travel policy with a cancellation module is always sensible in August given the higher flight costs involved.

August vs. other months: what do you miss?

August has few real downsides compared to other months. It is busier and pricier than May or September, but the weather is excellent, the atmosphere is festive and the activity offering is at its peak.
