Curaçao in November: Weather, Tips & What to Do
November is the month Curaçao's rainy season peaks, but it is also the last quiet month before the December rush sets in. As hosts of Villa Vidalou in Jan Thiel, we come here all year round, and November has its own charm for us: short, heavy showers that turn the island greener, a sea that still feels wonderfully warm, and a calm you won't find again once the Christmas holidays arrive. Below we share everything you need to know about the weather, how busy it gets, the best activities and practical tips for a great November holiday.
Weather in Curaçao in November
Along with December, November is considered the wettest month of the year in Curaçao. That is no reason to put off your holiday: showers usually arrive in short, intense bursts, often overnight or early in the morning, before the sun comes back out. Daytime temperatures typically sit between 27 and 31 °C, averaging around 28 °C. The sea stays pleasantly warm, around 28 °C, ideal for a dive or an afternoon of snorkelling.
Rainfall averages around 150 mm along the coast, usually slightly more inland. That is considerably more than in October, but still fairly dry compared to other Caribbean destinations at this time of year. The Atlantic hurricane season closes at the end of November, but Curaçao lies far outside the typical hurricane belt, and the last direct hurricane to hit the island was in 1954. In practice, visitors barely notice anything of storms that may occur elsewhere in the Caribbean.
How busy is Curaçao in November?
Along with September and October, November is still part of Curaçao's low season, though the island gently starts stirring for the December rush towards the end of the month. At Jan Thiel Beach, you can still easily find a quiet spot by the water in November, and nearby restaurants fill up less quickly than they will during the Christmas holidays.
November has no national holiday of its own, unlike October with Curaçao Day. That makes the month appealing for anyone who likes a quiet, unpolished Curaçao: fewer events, fewer crowds, and still plenty of sun between the showers.
Best activities in November
Despite the slightly more unpredictable showers, there is plenty to do in November. These are our favourites:
An early hike in Christoffel Park. Mornings in November are relatively cool, and the chance of rain is at its lowest. An early start up Mount Christoffel rewards you with views across the whole island, before any afternoon showers can roll in.
Snorkelling at Directors Bay. Less than a ten-minute walk from our villa, you'll find one of the quietest and most beautiful snorkelling spots near Jan Thiel. Read more in our Curaçao snorkelling guide.
Day trip to Klein Curaçao. The uninhabited island off Curaçao's coast is still beautiful in November, and with low season underway, boats are often less crowded. Keep an eye on the forecast before departure, as strong wind or swell can cause a trip to be adjusted or rescheduled. Read our full guide to Klein Curaçao.
Exploring Willemstad. The colourful UNESCO World Heritage city is pleasantly calm to visit in November. Stroll across the Queen Emma Bridge and visit Mikvé Israël-Emanuel.
Playa Lagun and Playa Knip. On Curaçao's west coast lie some of the island's most beautiful beaches, pleasantly quiet in November too. Rent a car, see our guide to car rental in Curaçao , and you're there in 40 minutes.
What does Curaçao cost in November?
Like September and October, November falls within the low season, with generally better prices for flights and accommodation than during the Christmas holidays that follow shortly after. Flexible travellers often find the year's last quiet low-season rates in November, before December pushes prices back up.
Eating and drinking on the island itself is relatively consistent year-round. A main course at a Jan Thiel restaurant averages 18–28 ANG (roughly €10–16). For a full cost breakdown, read our article on the cost of a holiday in Curaçao.
Practical tips for November
Pack a light rain jacket or umbrella. November showers are usually short but can arrive suddenly. A light rain jacket in your bag is more practical than a large umbrella.
Check the forecast for boat trips. If you're planning a day trip to Klein Curaçao or another boat excursion, keep an eye on the current forecast and stay flexible with your date.
Pack plenty of sunscreen. Despite the showers, the UV index stays high in Curaçao year-round. SPF 30–50 and regular reapplication is still necessary.
Book your December holiday now. Anyone wanting to visit Curaçao over the Christmas holidays should book ahead: prices climb in December and the best dates fill up fast.
Take out travel insurance with a cancellation module.Although the hurricane risk in Curaçao is minimal, a solid policy is always sensible near the tail end of the Atlantic hurricane season, if only for peace of mind.
November vs. other months: what do you miss?
Compared to October, November trades a bit of calm for more rainfall: showers are slightly more frequent and intense, while temperatures stay similar and low-season prices hold. For anyone who likes a quiet island without the crowds of the upcoming Christmas holidays, November is a great, affordable time to book.
