The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly: no mass tourism, yet sunbeds, parasols and food and drinks are all within reach. Children love the small aquarium by the beach where you can watch fish from the shore.
Snorkelling the reef
Just off the shore lies a coral reef that is both beautiful and accessible, even for beginners. On calm days you'll spot colourful fish and, with some luck, sea turtles. Beach clubs: Zanzibar & Papagayo
Zanzibaris Curaçao's iconic beach bar & restaurant, right on Jan Thiel Beach. Pleasantly quiet for lunch by the water during the day, livelier towards the evening. Book a table if you want dinner — it fills up fast, especially in high season.
Papagayo Beach Club, a few minutes' drive away, is one of the liveliest beach clubs on the island — sunbeds, crystal-clear water and good fish and grill dishes. It's popular with locals too, which keeps the experience authentic.
